The project of stone buildings for the winery on Gruda in Konavle is a modern adaptation and repurposing of protected or existing agricultural buildings into a functional wine complex, respecting the local architecture and landscape. Emphasis is placed on preserving the traditional stone construction of Konavle, while creating a representative space for the production, storage, and presentation of wine within the developing wine and tourist offer of Konavle.
Gruda is historically the central place of organized viticulture in Konavle, with a larger winery capacity established already in the 1960s, forming a logical framework for further development of wine facilities. The Konavle wine region has a long tradition of vine growing and remains an important part of the southern Croatian wine offer, making the project aligned with the existing identity of the area.
The primary material of the façades and exteriors is stone to visually integrate new or renovated buildings into the rural setting and traditional stone houses of Konavle. The complex may include production and wine aging spaces, tasting and presentation rooms, and potentially small hospitality or tourist accommodation facilities, in line with the Konavle municipality spatial plan.
The goal is to combine the production function of the winery with a tourist and experience aspect, offering visitors an authentic encounter with the Konavle wine story in the ambiance of stone buildings. The project also contributes to preserving and valorizing rural heritage and strengthening the local economy through the development of enological and rural tourism in Konavle.
